Dogs rescued from South Korea to be available for adoption in Everett

EVERETT, Wash. — Dogs rescued from a meat farm in South Korea will soon be available to adopt in Everett.

Volunteers and staff at the Everett Animal Shelter are working with dogs, getting them ready for adoption. Click here to see photos of the dogs.

Eight dogs arrived at the shelter Sept. 24, and seven should be ready to adopt the week of Oct. 19. A shelter staff member is adopting the eighth.

The dogs are part of the 103 dogs and puppies rescued from a dog meat farm in South Korea. They are Tosa mixes, also called Japanese mastiffs.

"We're glad to be a part of it," said Shelter Director Shannon Johnson, "Everything just fell into place for us to welcome these guys in and give them a second chance."

The dogs have names like Ranger, Octavia, and Hermione (a character in Harry Potter) and range from 7 months old to 5 years old and will grow to weigh between 80 and 130 pounds.

The dogs are not available for the public to view. People interested in adopting the dogs can apply here.

The shelter is asking people not to call about the dogs.

Shelter staff and volunteers will select potential adopters from the applications and allow them to meet the dogs to see if they are a good fit.

They don't think the dogs would be good in homes with children.

"Just because they've never been exposed and we don't know how their behavior would be if a child fell on them or stepped on their foot, " warned Johnson.

The dogs have had medical care, training and lots of love over the last three weeks. Aly Douglas is the lead volunteer.

"It is rewarding beyond words. It's been an amazing emotional process." Douglas said.
