• TRAFFIC ALERTS: Aurora Bridge closed Thursday after deadly Ride the Ducks, bus crash

    Updated:

SEATTLE - The Aurora Bridge was closed in Seattle Thursday—after a deadly collision between a charter bus, a Ride the Ducks vehicle, and several passenger vehicles.

The bridge closed to all pedestrian and vehicle traffic throughout the day.

    It reopened late Thursday night.

NB 99 traffic had to exit at Western. SB 99 traffic had to exit at 46th.

Transit service was rerouted, and SDOT set up a temporary bus lane on Westlake: 9th Ave North to Fremont Bridge -- to help NB transit.

Seattle Public Schools advised their school buses would be leaving early—in preparation of delays caused by the accident and closures.

“To accommodate rerouted traffic, the Fremont Avenue Bridge will remain open to street traffic, but closed to boat openings for the time being," wrote Mayor Ed Murray.

Drivers were advised to use alternate routes.

King County Metro buses were being rerouted accordingly.

At around 3:40 p.m., Metro advised of traffic delays.

Traffic became further congested closer to popular commute times in the city.

A special  bus-only lane was created on Thursday evening to help ease commutes along Westlake.
