• Ammunition explodes during Maple Valley barn fire

MAPLE VALLEY, Wash. - Ammunition exploded as a barn burned on 215th Avenue Southeast in Maple Valley.

Neighbors said they heard blasts after the fire broke out about 3:30 a.m. Thursday.

The King County Sheriff’s Office told neighbors ammunition was stored inside the barn.

The animals inside the barn are OK.

Neighbors were concerned the fire would spread because of trees in the area, but firefighters were able to quickly douse the fire once the gunshots stopped.

The fire did not spread to the home on the property and no one was hurt.
