86-foot beam falls off semi-truck in Everett

EVERETT, Wash. — An 86-foot foot beam blocked an Everett intersection for over nine hours after it fell off a truck Thursday afternoon, police said.

The incident happened at West Marine View Drive at Everett Avenue around 4:30 p.m. The intersection was reopened around 1:50 a.m. Friday morning.

Aaron Snell with the Everett Police Department told KIRO 7 that the truck driver was turning a corner when the truck tipped over.

No injuries were reported.

The Texas-based truck driver spoke to KIRO 7 after the accident, and said he had begun the trip driving the 55-ton crane girder on Tuesday in Wisconsin.

He was nearly to his destination, Vigor Marine, on Thursday, as he made a left turn. He said the girder made a loud “boom” when it hit the road.

Police say alcohol and drugs do not appear to be a factor.
