'62 City Council predicted Seattle to be thriving metropolis or ruined by 'nuclear warfare'

SEATTLE — As the Seattle City Council prepared for the 1962 World's Fair, it drafted a letter to the 2012 city council and imagined what the future might be like.

"In the year 2,012 Seattle will either be a mighty metropolis of more than 1,000,000 residents--or it will have become a charred, deserted relic of a fearful age of nuclear warfare," the '62 council predicted.

Lucky for current residents, Seattle in 2012 is more the former (though the 2010 Census had the population at about 600,000).
