Multi-vehicle crash, fire causes major backup on NB I-5

SEATTLE — A four-vehicle crash and fire on Interstate 5 at Olive Way closed all northbound lanes in downtown Seattle Tuesday morning. All lanes have since reopened.

Traffic was backed up seven miles through the south end of Seattle. Click here to see photos of the crash and backup.

Video from a Department of Transportation camera showed a pickup burning after the crash that happened around 8:22 a.m.

Firefighters arrived and put out the flames.  A 67-year-old man was taken to Harborview Medical Center as a precaution.

Cellphone video taken by a man on an overpass showed people pulling a man from a crashed car. A DOT camera also caught video of the rescue.

All but one lane was open by 9:03 a.m. after most of the scene was cleared. The scene was completely cleared by 9:50 a.m.

Troopers say the crash was caused by distracted driving.
