1 dead, 4 others injured after 4-vehicle crash

A man died and four people were injured Friday evening in a four-vehicle collision in Snohomish County, troopers said.

According to the Washington State Patrol, the crash happened in Lake Stevens on State Route 9 around 10:30 p.m.

Troopers said one vehicle crossed over the center line and crashed into another head-on. Another two vehicles collided into the two crashed vehicles.

Crews responded to the scene, and took two people to Harborview Medical Center. Two others suffered minor injuries.

A man in his 20s died at the scene, according to Trooper Mark Francis.

Lake Stevens police told KIRO 7 Eyewitness News that the vehicles collided into each other with such a hard impact that debris was spread 100 feet across the road.

“You’ve got those two forces coming on each other head-on. It’s almost to an instant stop. All the force generated gets pushed between the two cars, and basically just everything goes everywhere,” said Sgt. Rob Miner of the Lake Stevens Police Department.

It is unknown at this time if alcohol was a factor in the crash.
