Record-breaking heat continues

The sunshine and record-breaking heat will continue around the Sound and in the foothills on Tuesday with quite a few mid to upper 80s expected.   During the same week eight years ago, it snowed.

Seattle should reach a high of about 86 degrees. Monday was the hottest day ever for April 18, with a high of 89 degrees at SeaTac.

“If anything, we'll shave just a few degrees off the incredible heat of Monday, but it will be another record-setting day and the first back-to-back-to-back 80 degree days in April on record,” said KIRO 7 meteorologist Morgan Palmer.

The previous record for April 19 was 74 degrees.

Temperatures will cool into the mid-70s on Wednesday with increasing cloud cover and a slight chance of mainly mountain showers late. There is a slim chance of a foothill or mountain storm too Wednesday evening.

For Thursday and Friday, temperatures will be in the 60s with mostly cloudy skies and a chance of showers with showers and upper 50s for the upcoming weekend.

With the hot weather comes water danger. On Monday, two people on jet skis fell into Puget Sound near Alki.

Witnesses say boaters helped save one of them. A nurse biking nearby performed CPR.

For rivers, every year local firefighters conduct swift water rescue training and say currents can be overwhelming for even the strongest of swimmers.

Firefighters remind the public that everyone needs to take precautions when in the water.
