Metro considers changes to bus routes for Eastside commuters

SEATTLE — A traffic alert for Eastside commuters says possible changes are coming to several bus routes heading into downtown Seattle.

KIRO 7 Traffic Anchor Rachel Calderon spoke with King County Metro bus officials who say changes are not yet official and whatever they propose wouldn't happen for another year.

But they are looking to take adjust about a dozen routes from the Eastside, including ones which cross the 520 floating bridge.

The main change from the Eastside would be to drop riders off at the University of Washington bus station. Riders would then walk to the Light Link Rail station near Husky Stadium. It would then take commuters to downtown Seattle.

“If we take advantage of light rail instead of leaving buses stuck in 520 and I-5 traffic, then we might be able to take people to a new market like South Lake Union instead of needing to bring people all the way to downtown,” said King County Metro Deputy General Manager Victor Obeso.

Any changes to bus routes would first need to be approved by the King County Council.

But not all riders like the idea.
