Seahawks wrap up final day of OTAs

RENTON, Wash. — The Seattle Seahawks are reacting to the tight end swap the team made Thursday.

The players wrapped up their final day of Organized Team Activities (OTAs) on Friday, June 9. KIRO 7 was there to get the players reaction about Steve Donatell and how the offensive line is coming along.

The undrafted rookie out of Western Kentucky isn’t only a tight end, but according to Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll has the ability to be a long snapper, as well.

“[He’s] very versatile and I think any player playing a couple of positions [like him means] he’s valuable,” Thomas Rawls, a Seahawks running back, said with a smile. “And I think the coaches really take that into account.”

Donatell is the son of former University of Washington defensive coordinator Ed Donatell. Steve’s brother, Tom, is Seattle’s quality control coach.

The Seahawks offensive line continues to be a question as we look ahead to training camp.

“Those were young kids last year with no experience,” said Tom Cable, a Seahawks assistant head coach/offensive line. “In George’s [George Fant] case [he had] zero experience, and now they’ve been here a year. You can expect us to be much further along in our preparation as we head into camp.”

Seattle now turns its attention to mandatory minicamp where all of the veterans, including Michael Bennett and Cliff Avril, will arrive by Tuesday.
