Seattle City Council to vote on $29M affordable housing plan

The Seattle City Council is set to vote on Monday to formally adopt the proposal to create more affordable housing in the city.

The city council is dedicated to raise $29 million through bonds that would be paid off in 30 years.

The council voted seven to two on the proposal put forth by Councilwoman Lisa Herbold last week.

The goal is to build hundreds of affordable housing units over the next few years.

To make this happen, the city will also be shuffling funds meant for transportation and the new police north precinct projects.

Under Herbold's plan, the new precinct is not off the table.

Meanwhile, King County leaders set aside $2.5 million to transform an old nurses’ dorm into a homeless shelter.

Currently, they're assessing renovations and reaching out to neighbors near Harborview Medical Center.

Harborview Hall is owned by taxpayers and is located across from the hospital.

The council is expected to receive the results in the spring.
