Woman rescued after car takes dive at Poulsbo

POULSBO, Wash. — Rescuers have pulled a woman to safety after her car plunged onto the banks of Liberty Bay in Poulsbo.

The 80-year-old Bainbridge Island woman got out of her Ford Escort but was unable to climb up a 20-foot embankment, firefighters said.

Firefighters lowered a special chair used for carrying patients up and down stairs, and were able to raise her to a nearby dock, the Poulsbo Fire Department said.

Video from Chopper 7 showed firefighters lifting her to safety.

The front end of a red sedan was in the water in the 17200 block of Lemolo Shore Road.

The video showed the woman walking on her own after firefighters brought her to the road.

The cause of the crash isn't known.  Police are investigating.
