Woman killed in Rockport; 70-year-old man taken into custody

SKAGIT COUNTY, Wash. — A woman was killed and a man was taken into custody Sunday morning, said officials with the Skagit County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities responded to a residence in the 50000 block of Railroad Avenue in Rockport after receiving a call from a person who stated that his neighbor said that he killed his wife.

When deputies arrived, they found a 70-year-old man outside of the house.

After crews arrived, they attempted to revive a 61-year-old woman, who had multiple injuries to her head and face, but she was dead at the scene.

The man was taken into custody without incident, and was booked into the Skagit County Jail for investigation of second-degree murder.

According to deputies, the woman was the man’s longtime girlfriend.

The Washington State Patrol is assisting detectives with Skagit County Sheriff’s Office in this homicide investigation.
