Woman hit by car in North Seattle seriously hurt

SEATTLE — An 85-year-old woman who was crossing a North Seattle street Sunday was critically injured when she was struck by a car.

Police said the pedestrian was crossing Third Avenue Northwest at Northwest 132nd Street at 5:30 p.m. when she was hit by a Saab station wagon traveling northbound on Third Avenue Northwest.

The victim was treated at the scene and then transported to Harborview Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.

As is standard in collision investigations, the 57-year-old driver of the Saab was evaluated by a drug recognition expert officer for any signs of impairment.  Police said no signs of impairment were detected.
