Woman found dead at Snohomish County Jail

EVERETT, Wash. — An investigation is underway after an inmate was found dead in her jail cell early Monday.

The Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office said the 24-year-old woman was found unresponsive in her cell within the Snohomish County Jail medical unit at 1 a.m.

Medical personnel immediately began CPR and called for additional medical aid.  Medics attempted to revive the inmate but were unsuccessful and she died at the scene.

The inmate, an Everett resident, had been booked into the jail on Tuesday by the Everett Police Department for violating a no contact order and obstruction.

Police said jail personnel verified that the inmate had been screened medically when she was booked, as well routinely checked every half hour while being housed in the medical unit.

Authorities did not say why the inmate was being housed in the medical unit.

After any inmate death, a review of the death from a clinical standpoint, independent of the death investigation, is conducted.

The identity of the inmate, as well as cause and manner of death, will be released by the Medical Examiner’s Office.
