Woman finds explosive device in car at Auburn gas station

AUBURN, Wash. — A gas station at the Fred Meyer on 801 Auburn Way North was evacuated on Friday afternoon while the Port of Seattle Bomb Squad diffused an explosive device.

At approximately 3 p.m., a woman opened her vehicle's fuel cover and found some kind of explosive device. She removed it, placed it on top of her car, and called police.

Police neutralized the device shortly before 5 p.m.

Fire officials said a test of the device showed that it was an improvised explosive device.

Police said they believe the incident was not a random act.

The Auburn Police Department is investigating.
