• Woman crashes into fence at JBLM after I-5 chase

    JOINT BASE LEWIS-McCHORD, Wash. - A woman crashed into a fence at Joint Base Lewis-McChord Saturday morning when she fled to avoid police after trying to back up on the freeway, authorities said.

    Police said a woman was driving south on Interstate 5 near 320th Street when she tried to back up.

    Officers attempted to pull her over for a traffic violation, but the woman drove away.

    The woman fled at speeds exceeding 100 mph.

    She then crashed into a fence at JBLM.

    There was a 200-foot skid mark before she crashed into the barrier.

    The woman was transported to the hospital with unknown injuries shortly after 7 a.m.

    According to authorities, the driver was suspected of driving under the influence.
