Why is Seattle not getting snowfall in winter 2015?

Q: Why is Seattle not getting any snowfall this winter (2015) and East Coast does?

A: It's really amazing when you consider that Boston has received more snow this season (more than 45 inches) than has been on the ground at any one time at Snoqualmie Pass this year!

A persistent ridge of high pressure across the West Coast and a corresponding trough of low pressure much of the winter across the Eastern U.S. is responsible.

The strong north-south undulation in the jet stream pattern is called “meridional flow” and once it is well-established, it can be stubborn.
