West Seattle elementary school bans Halloween costumes

Students will not be allowed to wear costumes this Halloween at West Seattle's Lafayette Elementary School.
The Seattle School District said that teachers discussed the issue and decided that costumes may offend some students who come from other cultures.
However, cultural sensitivity did not play into the final decision, according to the school district. In the end, it came down to an issue of time. Halloween falls on a half-day of school this year, and teachers thought that it would be too time-consuming for students to change into costumes.
Instead of a costume party, the school will host a "Harvest Party" on Oct. 31.
