Wenatchee wildfire threatens homes

WENATCHEE, Wash. — A  fire on a hillside behind a Wenatchee neighborhood threatened homes early Sunday morning.

The Wenatchee World reported the fire was reported at 2:15 a.m. and came within 20 feet of one house on Skyline Drive.

Officials with the Chelan County Fire District told KIRO 7 the fire was estimated at 300 to 400 acres in size Sunday morning.

On Sunday afternoon the fire was downgraded to 188 acres in size.

Fire officials told residents to be ready to evacuate as the wildfire spread to several ridge lines behind the community on Sunday morning. Eight homes were evacuated. 

About 100 firefighters were at the scene, and three helicopters dropped water on the the hot spots.

Fire spokeswoman Kay McKellar says the cause of the fire is under investigation.

Fire officials said the fire is 90 percent contained.
