SEATTLE —

A woman was found clinging to a buoy and a man was pulled from the water near Shilshole Marina in Seattle.

The incident started about 3:10 p.m. when medics were called to the 7000 block of Seaview Avenue Northwest. Seattle police and fire marine units looked for the man about 100 yards off shore.

The people rescued were training for a boat race, the Australian A Class Catamaran Championships, fire officials said. They were wearing wetsuits.

The championships happens during Australia's winter, so they had to recreate the winter conditions -- but there was a boat malfunction that catapulted the woman off.

Neither appeared to be serious injured, police said.
