Water main break floods Roosevelt streets

SEATTLE — An 8-inch water main broke under a fire hydrant at 75th and 11th Avenue Northeast in Roosevelt Thursday night.

Water gushed out of the broken main for about 50 minutes. Fire crews tried to shut off the water but couldn’t, and Seattle Public Utilities sent a crew.

Water rushed down 11th Avenue Northeast and  down 73rd to Roosevelt Way.

To get the water stopped they had to shut off water to 3 fire hydrants and nearly a dozen houses along 11th Ave NE.

Workers said it would take about five hours to fix the break in the 8-inch water main.

No information on what might have caused the pipe to fail.
