VIDEO: Suspect attacks Walmart manager with bug spray

A Walmart manager was sprayed in the face with bug spray by a woman police say was stealing clothes, luggage and other items.

Officers are looking for 26-year-old Jennifer Sobjack, who tripped the security alarm when she left the store in north Bellingham.

An overnight manager confronted her in the parking lot and asked for a receipt for the items in the cart.  Instead, she pulled out the can of bug spray and sprayed him in the face. The manager let her run away and returned to the store with the stolen goods.

KIRO 7 looked at Sobjack’s criminal history and found numerous shoplifting charges. She was given a lifetime ban by Walmart in February.

KIRO 7 showed the video to a Safeway employee and a local store owner. Both say employee safety comes first.

A Walmart spokesman said the manager did the right thing by confronting Sobjack outside the store and letting her go when she started to struggle.

KIRO 7 reporter Lee Stoll is putting together the interview videos right now and will have the full story tonight on KIRO 7 Eyewitness News at 5:33 p.m.
