Two Renton beaches closed for milfoil treatments

Updated:

RENTON, Wash. - Two beaches in Renton are closed to treat milfoil in the water.

Gene Coulon Memorial Beach Park and Kennydale Beach Park are both closed Monday so crews can apply an aquatic herbicide to the water in the swim areas.

Milfoil is an invasive water weed that can tangle up fishing lines and boat propellers and can be especially dangerous for swimmers who become entangled.

The State Department of Ecology says the product used to kill the milfoil is safe for swimmers.
