One dead, another critical after being pulled from Green Lake

SEATTLE — Seattle Fire Department divers pulled two men from Green Lake Thursday night.

A nursing supervisor with Harborview Medical Center told KIRO 7 that one of the two had died. The other is in critical condition.

Neither person had a pulse when they were pulled out, said SFD spokesman Kyle Moore. Moore said firefighters got the call at around 9:30 p.m. It took 30 minutes to find the first person, a 26-year-old and ten more minutes to find the second, who’s likely in his 30s.  Active CPR was being performed on each as they were transported to Harborview.

Eyewitnesses said four people were swimming in Green Lake north of the community center.  Two people came to shore and two more looked like they were struggling.  Someone called 911. Police showed up first and directed rescuer divers to the scene.

Divers had a general idea of where the men were because there were so many eyewitnesses, however, the search still took a while because it was dark and there is already low visibility at Green Lake.
