SEATTLE - Witnesses say over a dozen shots were fired Tuesday evening at Benefit Park where a memorial event was going on.
The shooting occurred just blocks away from a National Night Out event.
More than 75 people were having a barbecue in the park when a man moved through the crowd and appeared to start firing at random.
People dropped their food and scrambled for cover.
"They were screaming and running in every direction--they were very scared. Some of them falling down the hill here, trying to get out of the park. It was complete chaos," said Rick McWhorter, who lives near the park.
Two people were shot and transported to Harborview Medical Center. They are reportedly in stable condition.
Police are still looking for the gunman described as black, 6 feet tall, wearing a black jacket with white lettering on the back. He may have fled the scene in a tan sedan.
