Trooper injured, two squad cars damaged in suspected DUI crash

SEATTLE — Just after 11 p.m. Monday on northbound Interstate 5 at the Ship Canal Bridge, a chain-reaction crash occurred between a suspected DUI driver and two Washington State Patrol Vehicles.

The driver hit the back of an unoccupied squad car and that vehicle hit another squad car with a trooper inside. The trooper suffered minor injuries and was taken to a local hospital.

The suspect was given a Breathalyzer at the scene and arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence.

The left lanes of northbound I-5 were closed for several hours during the investigation and cleanup.
