Teen gets Thanksgiving invite when a grandma texts him by mistake

There’s always plenty of food at Grandma’s house, particularly on Thanksgiving Day. And as one Arizona teen learned, someone still can be invited to the table, even if the grandma serving dinner is a complete stranger.

After all, Thanksgiving is about sharing.

“Somebody(’s) grandma is coming in clutch this year!! Ayee!!” tweeted Jamal Hinton, 17, of Phoenix.
On Tuesday, Hinton received an accidental group text from Grandma Wanda of Mesa, Arizona, Good Housekeeping reported. The text was to inform the group, including Amanda and Justin of the time and place for Wanda’s Thanksgiving dinner this year.
Hinton, confused, asked who the message was from and received, “Your grandma,” in reply.
Still unsure, he asked the texter for a photo. It was not his grandmother.
“I really thought it was my grandma so I had to ask for a picture to make sure,” Hinton told Buzzfeed.

Hinton responded with his own selfie shot, Buzzfeed reported. Then, still confused but not undaunted, Hinton texted, "Can I get a plate tho?"

Wanda’s answer made his day: “Of course you can. That's what grandmas do ... feed everyone."
Hinton shared the exchange on Twitter, and the conversation went viral.

Hinton told Buzzfeed that if the invitation still holds, he'd be delighted to join the family for Thanksgiving.

“If I was invited to their Thanksgiving for real, yes, I would go,” he said.
Wanda’s actual grandson is named Brandon, Buzzfeed reported, and Amanda is his girlfriend. The family asked not to reveal their last names. The Justin Grandma Wanda mentioned is Brandon’s younger brother’s boyfriend, according to Buzzfeed.
Amanda said the family is working to coordinate plans to include Hinton
Amanda said she and her boyfriend found the whole mixup “hysterical.”
“[Brandon’s] family is pretty amazing, even if it’s your first time meeting them,” she told Buzzfeed. “They adopt you into the family immediately.”
