As Donald Trump has been elected president of the United States, many Muslim women are expressing worry about their safety on Twitter.
Mashable reported that women have posted on Twitter that they and their family members are not wearing their hijabs in public.
Seeing my mom cry because she's even more scared of the racism she'll face because of her hijab absolutely broke me...

It's so sad that I have to carry pepper spray now bc I'm that fearful that a trump supporter is gonna target me for my hijab/being Muslim 😕

The reaction comes as Trump, who has made a heavily-criticized call for a "total and complete shutdown of Muslims entering the United States," December 2015, became president-elect.
According to ABC News, the statement Trump issued in December regarding the ban on Muslims immigrating to the U.S. is no longer on his website. The link to the statement redirects to the site's front page.
Not everyone is removing their hijab, though. Some said they will continue to wear it regardless of any threat that may arise.
I will wear my #hijab with pride today, racism, bigotry might have won last night, but I answer to Allah only. #Proudmuslim #notmypresident

I'm not afraid. But I feel a real pain in my heart. I don't think I will forget this feeling.

When you realize half your country hates you.
I'm not scared of Trump and neither will I ever STOP wearing the hijab. I'll wear even at the cost of death. He can't stop me or anyone.
