Softball pitcher calls time-out to pray during game

FILE PHOTO: A pitcher at the University of Tennessee called for a time-out to pray during a game.

When the pressure is on, sometimes a break is what is needed -- a moment to reconnect, refocus.

That’s what happened during a college softball game.

Tennessee pitcher Matty Moss had to throw one more strike against North Carolina to send her team to the super regionals, WVLT reported.

Moss called for a time out and the catcher came out to the mound, grasping hands with Moss for a quick prayer.

Once they were done, the game resumed. It took two pitches, but Moss got her strike and Tennessee won the game 2-0, WVLT reported.

Co-head coach Karen Weekley knew why Moss called for time.

"It was a prayer. That's what Matty does. When Matty needs to calm down, she calls the catcher out. She says 'Grab my hand.' I don't know who does the praying. I don't know if it's loud or silent because I've never been a part of it, but it's a prayer," Weekly Told WVLT.

She added if that’s what works for her pitcher, then she could do it every pitch.

Tennessee advanced to super regionals after the game.
