Fellow student steps up when boy's birthday party had to be cancelled

LIGONIER, Pa. — According to a Facebook post, Riley's parents planned a bowling party for their son, who has attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and obsessive-compulsive disorder. They invited 29 classmates.

Only four RSVPs were received, and they were all "No." The post said his mother and grandmother cried as they told him his party had to be cancelled.

Rochelle Shoaf’s daughter Braelyn, who is in Riley’s grade, was heartbroken and wanted to do something for Riley.

With his parents’ permission, Rochelle and Braelyn are asking people to send birthday cards to Riley.

"One small gesture can mean an awful lot," Rochelle's post said. "My hope is that he will be inundated with so many birthday cards he won't know where to begin."
