SEATTLE - The Seattle Police Department received numerous requests for more enforcement on Mercer Street after motorists have been blocking the intersection.
On Tuesday evening, traffic officers conducted an enforcement emphasis and issued 16 citations and nine warnings during a two-hour period. The most flagrant violators were ticketed and many were given a verbal warning.
Officials said the officers received positive feedback from the passing motorists, and most said that they have noticed a substantial improvement during the commute once officers started ticketing people.
According to the police department, the officers will maintain their presence on Mercer Street even though they are not needed.
