Thurston Co. man injured fighting home invasion robbery suspect

A man was arrested in a home invasion robbery in the town of Bucoda Thursday night, authorities said.

THURSTON COUNTY, Wash. — After 10:30 p.m., Thurston County deputies were called to a home in the 100 block of Perkins Street North.

According to authorities, a 34-year-old man was awakened by a man who was wearing a mask and was armed with a handgun. The armed man then ordered the victim to come with him.

The man then put on his shoes as if he was going to comply with the suspect’s orders, but the victim started punching the suspect repeatedly.

Authorities said the suspect then pistol-whipped the victim repeatedly.

After the victim and suspect separated, the suspect fired a single round into the floor between the victim’s feet.

The suspect then fled the scene with the victim’s cellphone.

According to authorities, the victim pulled the suspect’s mask off and recognized him. The suspect was Thomas Denegar, who was a soon-to-be ex-husband of the victim’s friend.

Denegar was arrested in the Grand Mound area after the victim reported that he was assaulted. He was booked into the Thurston County Jail.
