Three stabbed in fight near King County Courthouse

SEATTLE — Homeless people near the King County Courthouse were the victims and the heroes in a stabbing Monday night.

Seattle police say shortly before 10 p.m., there was a large group of people at the park just south of the courthouse.  A fight broke out between four men, and one of them pulled out a knife. He started slashing at the others, and stabbed three of them.  Other people in the park made sure the suspect did not get away.

"Basically, there were others in the park when this was going on," explained Captain Mike Edwards with Seattle police.  "They jumped on him, held him down, until the first officers got on scene.  Then they let the individual go. He stood up and officers were able to take him into custody."

The three victims were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

By 11 p.m., the park was back to normal, with people laying out their sleeping bags and hoping the rest of the night would be peaceful.
