Three high school students suspended over alleged sex picture

EDMONDS, Wash. — Edmonds police are investigating after an alleged picture of a 17-year-old boy, his 18-year-old brother, and a 15-year-old girl appearing to have sex leaked online via Twitter.  All three students go to Edmonds Woodway High School.

After the school learned about the lleged picture, the district called police and suspended the brothers. "To the extent this issue came on campus via social media and impacted students at school, we have taken disciplinary actions. Some are expecting the school to police or parent teen behaviors that happened outside of school, off school grounds and outside of the school day. In this instance, we are limited in our jurisdiction," said DJ Jakala, community relations manager for Edmonds School District.

KIRO 7 Eyewitness News is not naming any of the students involved because they haven't been charged.

Police believe it was a student at the private Christian school, King's High in Shoreline that leaked it. The superintendent for King's Schools, Eric Rasmussen, said the student who allegedly leaked the photo has been suspended until further notice.

After the picture was leaked online last Wednesday, one of the brothers appeared to brag about the picture saying "Yup the (name omitted) bro's struck!! #legends"

A KIRO reporter went to their home to ask them about the lleged picture. One of the brothers cracked the door open and said, "What do you want?" before quickly shutting it.

Edmonds police is still trying to figure out if any of the teenagers involved will face criminal charges. "It's all going to depend on if we can narrow the time frame down as to when this might have happened and what the ages of anybody involved might have been at that time," said Sgt. Mark Marsh.

Students at the school who have seen the lleged pictures think the situation was blown out of proportion. "I don’t think it was too revealing. I don’t think that they should be making such a big deal out of it," said Kalina Todorova, a junior at Edmonds-Woodway. She and Anthony Miller are friends with the brothers. "Their whole lives are ahead of them right now and to be punished for such a little mistake I don’t think that's really fair," said Miller, who is on the wrestling team with the brothers.

As for the 15-year-old girl who was in the alleged picture, police say she still attends class at the school and has not been harassed or bullied. "She seems like very nonchalant about it," said Todorova, who has seen her at school.

Marsh says depending on how old the students were when the picture was taken, and other factors, the students could face charges. The student who leaked the picture could potentially face a child pornography charge. The brothers could also be charged, "It could be nothing it could be some type of sex offense charge it just depends. It literally depends on what happened," said Marsh.
