Teens accused of killing 3 in Canada died of suicide, police say

TORONTO — Canadian police said the autopsy of the confirmed bodies of Bryer Schmegelsky and Kam McLeod, the teens on the run after killing three people, indicates they killed themselves.

The Associated Press reported that the Manitoba medical examiner completed the autopsies on the two bodies, which were found in Northern Manitoba.

"While both individuals were deceased for a number of days before they were found, the exact time and date of their deaths are not known," said the Royal Canadian Mounted Police in a statement, according to The New York Times. "However, there are strong indications that they had been alive for a few days since last seen in July."

McLeod, 19, and Schmegelsky, 18, were facing second-degree murder charges in the death of Leonard Dyck, whose body was found July 19 along a highway in British Columbia, the AP reported. The two were also suspects in the deaths of Chynna Deese of Charlotte, North Carolina, and her Australian boyfriend, Luca Fowler.

CBC News reported that two firearms were found near the bodies of Schmegelsky and McLeod. Police are doing a forensic analysis to determine if the weapons are connected with the northern British Columbia deaths.
