Teen girl falls off Discovery Park cliff

A teenage girl fell from a cliff Monday afternoon at Discovery Park and was helped by a high-angle rescue crew.

The girl fell shortly before 2:45 p.m. and medics said she had a back injury after falling about 15 feet into the sand dunes.

The teen was hiking with some friends when she lost her footing and fell. Rescuers say the teen injured her back.

Firefighters hiked down to her and stabilized her while the technical rescue team used a web of ropes to help them maneuver the teen back up the steep trail.

Kyle Moore with the Seattle Fire Department said the teen was going in and out of consciousness.

The parents of the friends the teen was hiking with waited at the top and tried to get ahold of the girl’s parents.

The area is marked with signs warning of the danger. The teen was taken to Harborview where she was in stable condition Monday night.
