KENT, Wash. - Kent police spent hours Thursday night investigating the sexual assault of an 8-year-old. The attack happened in Kent in the woods behind the Red Lion Inn and Suites at 74th and Willis Street.
Police say the 8-year-old lives nearby. Detectives say she was lured to the woods by a 14-year-old who was a friend of one of her relatives.
The girl was able to run inside the hotel for help. Gianne Carlos was working at the front desk, “Really sad. She rushed in and dropped on the floor and said she was raped and said to call 911,” said Carlos who called 911 and comforted her.
Aid crews rushed the victim to the hospital. Police worked to track down the 14 year old. According to detectives, they went to the girl’s home to find out the identity of the teen. They found him at an apartment complex nearby.
Investigators carefully searched through the woods collecting evidence. They also talked to hotel guests to see if they saw anything out the windows. There are surveillance cameras on the outside of the hotel. Detectives are reviewing the video.
The 14-year-old was booked in the Denny Juvenile Detention Center in Seattle.
He is expected to appear in court on Friday.
