Tacoma exhibit honors service members killed in Iraq

TACOMA, Wash. — Visitors spent Memorial Day honoring service members who were killed in Iraq since March 2003 at a Tacoma exhibit.

Arlington Northwest Memorial Display in Marine Park is considered the Northwest’s version of Arlington National Cemetery, and it’s a traveling exhibit. It has been on display more than 60 times in various places.

The Evergreen Peace & Justice Community and Veterans for Peace set up the exhibit, which is four acres of tombstones and crosses. They have been putting up the display since June 2004.

Those who are visiting can place cards on markers that have soldiers’ names, ages and hometowns on them.

Volunteers will be at the exhibit to help visitors with placement cards.

The memorial opened Monday morning and closes at 8 p.m.
