Police: Armed man holds woman hostage at Tumwater gas station

TUMWATER, Wash. - After about nine hours, a hostage situation in Tumwater ended Sunday evening, and a man was taken into custody.

Police and a SWAT team surrounded the USA Gasoline station on 701 Trosper Road before 10 a.m.

According to police, the incident started as a domestic call.

Tumwater Police Detective Jen Kolb told KIRO 7 Eyewitness News a man, armed with a gun, wanted to talk to his former girlfriend, who is an employee at the gas station.

Police said the armed man was holding the woman hostage.

Tumwater and Olympia police responded to the scene and a SWAT team was called to get the man to come outside.

At about 6:30 p.m., the woman emerged from the gas station and the man was taken into custody.  

According to police, the woman had a previous restraining order against him.  

No customers were inside the store during the time of the incident.

Roads in the area were blocked by police during the incident.

A business owner across from the gas station told KIRO 7 that officers told her to stay indoors because the man was armed.
