Stunt stops traffic on Oakland interstate

OAKLAND, Calif. — Saturday afternoon northbound traffic on Interstate 880 in Oakland encountered an unusual traffic stoppage.

The air was filled with burnt-rubber smoke and traffic was blocked by several souped-up cars that were spinning doughnuts.

The vehicle maneuver is a popular way to celebrate victories in professional motorsports.

The group broke up and sped away when someone yelled, "5-O," a moniker for police.

The incident was caught on camera by onlookers and posted to YouTube. KTVU shared clips of the video and reactions from Oakland residents.

Similar stunts on Interstate 880 have been documented on YouTube in the past, including this video from 2007.

CHP officers said they are investigating Saturday's incident.
