SPD sergeant charged with hit-and-run, reckless driving

SEATTLE — KIRO 7 has learned that criminal charges have been filed against a Seattle police sergeant accused of hit-and-run and reckless driving.

Sgt. Joe Fountain was arrested in February after officers saw a Chevy Impala swerve, hit property and then drive on near the Pike Place Market.

Fountain was not on duty at the time of the incident, but he was driving the unmarked Seattle police vehicle assigned to him.

The Washington State Patrol investigated the incident and now criminal charges have been filed in Seattle Municipal Court.

On Tuesday, an SPD spokesman said Fountain is still on the job pending the department's own investigation.
