SPD officer suspended for using racial slur

The Seattle Times reports Sergeant Lora Alcantara used the slur during a pursuit three years ago.

SEATTLE — A veteran Seattle Police officer has been suspended for five days without pay after she used a racial slur to describe a suspect.

The Seattle Times reports Sergeant Lora Alcantara used the slur, "f*****g Negro," during a pursuit three years ago.

Alacantra was chasing a stolen car driven by a man when she uttered the obscenities, which were heard on dash-camera video.

Police Chief Kathleen O'Toole handed down the suspension on Feb. 10, calling the officer's language "totally unacceptable."

The Times said Alcantara was also ordered to undergo retraining in department policies on profanity, derogatory language and race and social justice.
