SEATTLE - As the gates opened Saturday morning for Hempfest, Seattle police were on hand to pass out bags of Doritos.
Thousands of people are expected to attend the marijuana festival this weekend, and the Seattle Police Department plans to hand out 1,000 packages of the chips, as part of a plan informally called “Operation Orange Fingers.”
The bags included a label with information about the state’s legalization of marijuana and to clear up any confusion.
Just before 11:30 a.m., the department ran out of bags.
Police told KIRO 7 Eyewitness News reporter Amy Clancy that the plan is being paid for by the Seattle Police Foundation, which taxpayers will not be paying for the bill.
