SPD chief reverses decision to discipline officers

SEATTLE — Seattle's police chief reversed a proposal to discipline three officers who heard gunshots and then shot at the wrong car.

Dash cam video shows police officers ducking for cover on New Year's Eve 2014 and then returning fire at a car they mistook for the source of the gunshots.

The Seattle Times reports that the Office of Professional Accountability recommended a 15-day suspension.

But on Friday, Chief Kathleen O'Toole reversed the findings, saying she would have done the same thing as the officers.

She noted it happened on a day on which police were on edge after social media posts describing the date as “Kill the PIG night.”
