3-vehicle crash snarls I-5 traffic in Lakewood

LAKEWOOD, Wash. — Southbound Interstate 5 in Lakewood was shut down after a crash involving at least three vehicles.

The crash occurred on southbound I-5 near Berkeley Avenue at about 1:30 p.m., causing a backup of 7 miles at one point.
West Pierce Fire and Rescue said a semi-truck crashed into the median, blocking all lanes of traffic for about 30 minutes.

Two other vehicles, a car and a motorhome, crashed into the semi after it hit the median.

Two people were transported to the hospital, one with serious injuries, and the other with minor injuries.

The spectacle of the crash also caused  northbound I-5 to back up near Mounts Road and Old Nisqually Road.

The Washington State Patrol is working to reopen all lanes.
