CHEHALIS, Wash. — Witnesses in Chehalis said a tire came off a southbound I-5 driver’s vehicle and struck a northbound vehicle.
It happened Thursday during rush hour at milepost 75.
The Washington State Patrol reported the tire went across the Jersey barrier, causing one vehicle to crash.
One person was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in critical condition.
Another person was transported to Providence Centralia Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The vehicle going northbound was found resting in 12 inches of swampy marsh water 150 feet off of I-5.
The State Patrol is investigating the cause of the crash.
