A brush fire burned early Monday along SR 512 in Pierce County after a semitruck crashed into a guardrail and burst into flames, prompting lane closures.
According to the Department of Transportation, the truck caught fire around 2 a.m. on SR 512 eastbound near Portland Avenue East. The truck crashed into the guardrail on the right shoulder.
The driver got out of the truck safely before the truck was consumed by flames that then spread to the brush.
The fire prompted closure of eastbound lanes and some westbound lanes. All lanes reopened by 7 a.m. after the trailer was towed away.
The overpass was damaged in the incident and will require repairs, but no other vehicles were involved.
