Police: Man suspected in South Hill shooting in custody; brought in by his father

PIERCE COUNTY, Wash. — A 20-year-old man was arrested Friday evening in connection with the shooting of a man in South Hill.

The Pierce County Sheriff's Office said the suspected shooter's dad saw his photo on the news and brought him in.

The suspect, identified as Scott Saegert, 20, allegedly shot a man Friday morning in the middle of a Puyallup neighborhood.

Deputies said they responded to multiple 911 calls of shots fired in the 12000 block of 132nd Street East in South Hill.

Neighbors heard several shots around 122nd Avenue Court East in Puyallup.

While deputies were searching the neighborhood, a resident in the area reported finding an abandoned bicycle in his yard.

Deputies said they found the 33-year-old victim in a nearby by backyard suffering from a life-threatening gunshot wound.

Deputies learned just prior to the shooting, the victim had been involved in an altercation with several people at house on 122nd Street East. The victim fled the scene on a bicycle and was chased by people from home, who were in two cars.

Deputies said they don’t know how many shots were fired, but stray bullets hit at least several homes and fences in the neighborhood. They also noted they previously had a problem with the home involved.

Police identified the suspected shooter throughout the day and Saegert was eventually brought in by his father.

Saegert was booked for investigation of attempted murder.

The investigation is ongoing.
