Tacoma police say they’ve had an increase in the number of complaints involving the use of counterfeit bills.
In the last two weeks, there have been 10 reported cases involving $20 and $100 bills of varying quality.
Tacoma police ask that businesses and citizens be aware of such bills throughout the city. Anyone who comes in contact with any bills that seem suspicious should not accept them and then call police.
Businesses should use existing procedures to verify bills are genuine. For those businesses that don’t have procedures, TPD encourages them to implement one to determine that bills are authentic before accepting them as payment.
